Frequently Asked Questions About Volunteering
When can I volunteer?
We always need volunteers whether it's for shopping, stocking the cooler and freezer, stocking the floor, or warehouse projects. Look at our volunteer opportunities here.
How old do I have to be to volunteer?
Youth must be at least 5 years old to volunteer. Youth volunteers (5 to 15 years of age) must be accompanied by an adult volunteer. Exceptions to this rule can be made by the Volunteer Coordinator and parent/guardian on a case-by-case basis. For groups, there must be at least 1 adult for every 10 youth.
What are my options for roles to fill as a volunteer?
You can shop; stock the floor, cooler, or freezer; work in the garden; become a resource partner; or volunteer in the welcome center as a receptionist or at intake. You can find descriptions of each role in the volunteer manual.
Can I do court-appointed community service here?
Yes, but Our Daily Bread does not accept sexual or violent charges. You must follow the set application process (using a separate court appointed application). Applications and background checks are thoroughly reviewed by staff, and the decision to accept or deny that applicant (and where that applicant is allowed to work) will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
What should I wear?
Come in comfortable clothes and shoes. We recommend wearing closed-toe shoes, especially in the warehouse.
What forms should I fill out?
We have forms for groups and for individuals, depending on how often you would like to volunteer. If you're family would like to volunteer regularly, please fill out a form for each adult or child above the age of ten.
