Frequently Asked Questions about Shopping
Can I shop for groceries if I live outside Payne County?
Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to serve guests outside of Payne County. You can use Oklahoma 211 system to find assistance near you.
Can I shop for someone else or have someone else shop for me?
Yes, you may shop for someone else or have someone shop for you as long as 30 days have passed since the last visit of the household receiving groceries. Bring a copy of the other person's ID (scanned, physical, or photo of the ID will work) and a handwritten, dated note for the person you are shopping for. If you have their white return card given at intake, that is extremely helpful for us!
I've never been before. Do I shop the same day I go through intake?
Yes! Once you go through intake, you will be able to shop the same day. Intake generally only takes a few minutes to complete.
How much food will I go home with?
Everyone has the opportunity to go home with a full cart of groceries! You can expect to home with enough food for about 5 days depending on the size of your household and the items chosen from the floor.
What is the expected wait time at ODB?
Our wait time inside the building averages 30 minutes to 1 hour from start to finish - intake to loading up your car. Wait time varies depending on the time of the month. The last week of the month is always the busiest, and the wait time will more than likely be closer to an hour after intake.
How often can I shop?
Guests may shop once every 30 days. If you need immediate food assistance, you may receive an emergency food bag and choose items from our "freebie" section should there be anything available. Guests that come before the 30 day mark will not be able to shop on the floor.
When does ODB close officially?
Each session, we close at the half-hour mark listed on our "Hours" page. The same hours are listed on the door. Once the door is locked, guests will not be able to shop until the next session. Everyone who is inside the waiting area before we close the doors will shop the same day.
If I think the line will be long; should I get there early?
There is no benefit of arriving early, whether it's weather related or due to busyness. We encourage families NOT to line up outside the building, especially on really hot or cold days (for your own safety), but to show up when the door is unlocked and wait inside in our temperature controlled waiting room. We cannot unlock the door until opening time. We never run out of food and always restock during shopping hours for plenty of food choices.
If I do come before the session starts, will I be allowed to come in early?
We cannot unlock the door until opening time. We encourage families NOT to line up outside the building, especially on really hot or cold days (for your own safety), but to show up when the door is unlocked and wait inside in our temperature controlled waiting room.
